Archbishop of Delhi Vincent M. Concessao, a founder member of the India Against Corruption movement, has in a statement said that he “hopes and prays that Anna will soon end his fast and that the Government will indeed be more serious with regard to tackling corruption in public life”.

Stating that democratic processes can not be set aside, the Archbishop said: “What we need is the education of our Parliamentarians so that they can amend the Lokpal Bill to ensure its effectiveness in practical terms. That would ensure the responsiveness of our Parliamentarians to the needs and aspirations of the people they represent.” Reiterating the need for an effective Lokpal to deter people from corruption, the Archbishop said “the tremendous response of the people to Anna's appeal is an indication of how prevalent the problem is and that the people's awareness of the problem has grown”.
