The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday quashed the detention of Thameem Ansari, who was arrested last year on charges of helping Pakistani spy agency, under the National Security Act.

A Division Bench comprising Justices A. Selvam and M. Sathyanarayanan allowed a habeas corpus petition by his wife Nabila seeking the quashing of his detention order.

In her petition, Ms. Nabila said the Q Branch-CID police detained her husband under the NSA on the charge that he attempted to provide maps of Nagapattinam port, Karaikal port and the Madras Atomic Power Station in Kalpakkam to the Pakistan High Commission, Colombo. According to her, the charge was false and he was taken into custody while waiting to board a flight to Colombo at the Tiruchi airport on September 16, 2012.
