NEW DELHI: Aligarh Muslim University will confer an honorary doctorate on ace music director A. R. Rahman for his Oscar-winning composition in the much talked about film Slumdog Millionaire at its 59th annual Convocation this Sunday.
Noted scholar and former Sahitya Akademi president Gopichand Narang will also be felicitated with an honorary degree.
West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi will be the chief guest at the ceremony to be held at the Athletics Ground on the AMU campus at 8-30 a.m. He will deliver the Convocation Address.
The Convocation will be chaired by former Chief Justice of India and AMU Chancellor Justice A. M. Ahmadi. Vice-Chancellor P. K. Abdul Azis will present the annual report.
More than 250 Ph.D., 1,500 post-graduate and 3,000 bachelor’s degrees will be awarded, and 43 gold and 160 silver medals will be presented.
