NEW DELHI: An Afghan national and a young woman have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for allegedly being in possession of heroin.

The contraband is valued at Rs.3 crore in international market. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap near ISKON Temple in East of Kailash on Tuesday and arrested Mohammad Asmile alias Musa (53) and Lalmuanpuii Hnamte alias Apui (24), a resident of Mizoram, when the former allegedly handed over a heroin consignment to the latter. The consignment weighing 1.8 kg was seized. More than a kg of heroin was allegedly seized later from Musa’s DDA flat in Greater Kailash. During interrogation, Musa purportedly told the police that he had earlier been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau with 4 kg of heroin in 2000.

He was convicted and a local court sentenced him to 10 year of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh.

He came in contact with Vincet alias John, a drug peddler, after being released on bail in February.
