Police on Friday night arrested a hardcore cadre of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) Pradip Hatimota, one of the accused in the Sanjoy Ghosh assassination case, in Majuli river-island in upper Assam's Jorhat district.

Sanjoy Ghosh, a pioneering rural development activist was abducted, assassinated by a group of ULFA cadres on July 4, 1997 in Majuli river-island and his body was dumped in the river Brahmaputra.

Confirming the news Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) L.R Bisnoi told The Hindu that Hatimota was one of accused named by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the charge sheet of the case and was an absconder.

Self-styled commander-in-chief of the ULFA Paresh Barua was also named as one of the 11 accused by the CBI in the assassination of Sanjoy Ghosh. Five of the accused had been killed in encounter.
