Party announces formation of its Delhi unit consisting of 3 leaders

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday, almost a month after it took power in the Capital, announced formation of its Delhi unit.

The unit consisting of three senior leaders, Ashish Talwar, Durgesh Pathak and Dilip K. Pandey, has the mandate to “look after all political activities” in the city.

Hundreds of applications received

The team got down to business on the very first day by screening applications received by the party to shortlist candidates for the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi. Though the party received hundreds of applications, over 650 of them are complete and fulfil the criteria set by the AAP.

Sources said the first list of shortlisted candidates for Delhi is expected to be out in about ten days. Given the possibility of party national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal contesting general election from Delhi, party leaders are tight-lipped if he has yet filled up the form as mandated by the election norms of the party.

Delhi unit to take care for LS poll preparation

A party statement issued on Thursday said Ashish Talwar will be Delhi unit convenor, Durgesh Pathak the co-convenor and Dilip K. Pandey will be the secretary. The Delhi unit will be responsible for preparations of the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Mr. Pandey said the screening committee constitutes of party leaders Manish Sisodia, Irfanullah, Nisha Singh, Durgesh Pathak, Ashish Talwar, and an external observer Abhinandan Sekhri.

A necessity

Before the formation of the Delhi unit, the nine-member Political Affairs Committee and a two-member sub-committee of the party was looking after Delhi’s affairs. But with the party deciding to go national after the Assembly election results, there was a need to constitute a separate unit for Delhi.
