Over 70 women and girls suspected to have been forced into prostitution were rescued in a joint operation on G.B. Road here on Monday.

A team of Andhra Pradesh Police contacted their counterparts in Delhi following a tip-off that many girls from the State had been pushed into the flesh trade in brothels on G.B. Road. Subsequently raids were mounted at three brothels and 74 women and girls were rescued.

“Their age is being determined to ascertain how many of them are minor. Preliminary investigations suggest that about 35 of those rescued belong to Andhra Pradesh. All of them being are being counselled by representatives of a non-government organisation,” said a police officer.
