Victim found lying in pool of blood at his residence in Darya Ganj

Robbery suspected to be the motive behind crime

Chowkidars suspected, absconding since murder

NEW DELHI: A 65-year-old tent house owner was found murdered at his residence in Darya Ganj here on Saturday. The police suspect that robbery was the motive behind the crime.

The murder came to light around 7 a.m. when driver Vijay found Dev Sen Jain lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom on the ground floor of the house at Delhi Gate. The legs of the deceased were found tied up.

Vijay informed the neighbours who in turn called up the police. “It seems he was hit on his head with a heavy object and stabbed several times in the stomach. The house was ransacked and robbery appears to be the motive,” said a senior police officer.

The police suspect the involvement of “chowkidars”, identified as Krishan Bahadur and Ashish, who are absconding since the murder came to light. Krishan and Ashish stayed in a room in the house from where Dev Sen ran his tent house.

The police suspect that the two entered the house late at night with robbery on their mind and murdered Dev Sen who was woken up by the noise.

Dev Sen owned New Jain Tent House. He stayed with his youngest son Amit and wife Vimlesh who had gone to attend a marriage in Indore a week ago.

“What all has been robbed can be ascertained only after Amit and his mother Vimlesh return from Indore. The two have been informed of the murder. The body has been sent for post-mortem,” the officer said.
