Three persons were killed in two consecutive days of police firing during clashes between two groups of people belonging to the same community at Thangadh in Surendranagar district in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat.

The police said there was a clash at the end of the famous three-day Tarnetar fair on Saturday, forcing the police to open fire. One person was seriously injured and admitted to a hospital in Rajkot and he died there late in the night.

His family members refused to take the body, demanding action against the police personnel responsible for his death.

Groups of people reassembled on Sunday and started pelting stones on the police, forcing the police to open fire again in which two were killed and one seriously injured.

The police said the situation in Thangadh on Sunday evening was very tense but under control.
