77 samples taken from seven districts so far in October
The Haryana Food & Drug Administration on Thursday claimed to have raided 28 hookah bars in seven districts and taken 77 samples so far this month as part of the drive to make the State nicotine-free.

An official spokesman disclosed that in Panchkula district five hookah bars were raided and seven samples taken while in Panipat five such bars were raided and 36 samples taken.
In Gurgaon, seven hookah bars were raided and eight samples taken, in Faridabad two bars were raided and eight samples taken and in Rohtak seven bars were raided and 11 samples taken. One bar each was raided in Jhajjar and Hisar districts where four and three samples were taken respectively.
None of the manufacturers of the products seized at the bars had a drug manufacturing license, which is mandatory under Section 18 (C) of the Drug and Cosmetics Act. Therefore, legal action would be initiated, he added.
The raids are being conducted following directions by the Punjab & Haryana High Court issued on a petition filed by Burning Brain Society.
The seized samples have been sent to the State Drug Laboratory here for testing of contents of nicotine. Legal action would be initiated against the defaulters after examining the test reports.
Also, task forces have been constituted in the districts headed by the respective Deputy Commissioners.
He disclosed that hookah bars charge Rs.150 to 350 per hour from each member and are “the latest fad among the youth”.
