As many as 250 lawyers have been booked for vandalising the District Magistrate’s office after they were not allowed to meet Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav when he had visited the district.
Cases were filed against the advocates under relevant sections of the IPC, the police said.
CCTV footages will be used for the identification of those involved in the incident, Inspector Ajay Agrawal said.
Meanwhile, the lawyers have expressed anguish over registration of cases saying that they have already described the incident as ‘unfortunate’.
Meerut Bar Association member Mukesh Walia said the matter will be taken up with the district administration.
On Monday, a group of lawyers, angry over not being allowed to meet Akhilesh, had vandalised the DM office at the Collectorate. They wanted to meet the Chief Minister over the issue of a separate High Court bench in the western region of Uttar Pradesh. - PTI
