NEW DELHI: A court here has sentenced a man to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for robbing an auto-rickshaw driver of Rs. 100.

Additional Sessions Judge V. K. Bansal sentenced convict Naresh Kumar, a resident of Patel Nagar, for robbing Roop Ram on September 24, 2005, near the DND flyway. Naresh had allegedly threatened Roop Ram with a razor and robbed him of Rs. 100 and some other documents which the victim had kept in his pocket.

Plea rejected

The police had subsequently managed to recover the robbed amount and the documents from the accused.

The Judge rejected Naresh’s leniency plea observing that the fact that the amount involved was small did not diminish the gravity of the crime.In fact, the accused had robbed the victim of all his belongings, the Judge said.
