A person was arrested on Monday on charge of thefts in Kannur and Kozhikode districts.

The accused, identified as Abdul Kabeer, 32, a native of Nettur, near Kuttiyady, was involved in more than 50 thefts in the past 16 years, the police said.

In places of worship

He had burgled a workshop at Kololam and stolen gold from houses at Chitrari, near Pattannoor; Panayathamparambu, near Chalode; Nayattupara; and Mahe recently. He had also looted many places of worship, including the Kolappa mosque and Chola temple, the police said.

A police team led by Circle Inspector T.N. Sajeevan arrested the accused from Chalode bus stand in the wee hours of Monday.
