A 32-year-old man from Kanhangad died of suspected case of leptospirosis (rat fever) at a hospital in Mangalore.

Radhakrishan, a painting worker, residing at Arayi near Kanhangad, died at the hospital on Friday night, family sources said.

The youth was being treated in a hospital here and was later shifted to a hospital in Mangalore after his condition worsened a few days ago, family sources here said.

A local club near his residence, called Vivekananda Arts and Sports Club, had formed a committee headed by Kanhangad Municipal Vice Chariman Prabhakran Vazhunnoradi, and collected Rs.2 lakh to meet the medical expenses for the youth.

People from various walks of life, including E. Chandrasekharan, MLA, paid floral tributes to the youth as his body was brought here and kept at the club on Saturday.
