Young World Quiz in Kozhikode on Thursday

The 12th edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz, which kicked off in Madurai on October 19, will be held here from 11 a.m. on Thursday. The venue is Tagore Centenary Hall.

This year, the annual event is being held across 16 centres, including Tiruchirapalli, Coimbatore, Salem, Chennai, Puducherry, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mangalore, Hubli, and Kochi, and will culminate in a grand finale in Thiruvananthapuram on November 14.

The contest is open to students from classes seven to nine.

A school can send four teams, each with two members.

The Hindu will meet the cost of travel, boarding, and lodging of the teams and one accompanying parent or teacher from other centres for the grand finale in Thiruvananthapuram.

As in the previous years, V.V. Ramanan, eminent quiz master, will host the show and bombard the participants with questions from varied topics, such as the epics, history, films, music, and science.

Six teams for the regional finals will be selected through a written quiz. The winning team from each region will qualify for the grand finale.

The participants are requested to report at the venue by 10 a.m. on the day of the event with their entry cards.


The first-prize winners in the regional finals will bag Rs.15,000, the second-prize winners Rs.12,000, and the third-prize winners Rs.10,000.

A purse of Rs.2,000 each will be given to those in the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions.

The prize money for the winner in the grand finale will be Rs.50,000.

The second prize carries Rs.40,000 and the third Rs.30,000. The fourth, fifth, and sixth places will carry Rs.10,000 each.

A large number of other prizes have been lined up for the participants and the audience.

The families of the participants in the winning team in the grand finale in Thiruvananthapuram will get a Tata Nano car as bonus.
