Young World quiz in Kochi tomorrow

The Kochi regional round of the The Hindu Young World Quiz will be held at A. J. Hall, Kaloor, on Saturday.

The popular competition is a part of The Hindu-NIE Initiative.

The participation of schools in this multi-city mega quiz has been overwhelming over the years.

The competition is likely to be all the more intense this year, the 20th anniversary of The Hindu Young World.

The title sponsor of the mega event is Velammal Educational Trust, while the regional sponsors are A.C. City Builders, Club Mahindra Holidays, Nestle India Ltd., and Groves.

Other sponsors include Pepsodent, Aqua Sure, Cherry Blossom, Black Thunder, Reynolds, Gold Winner, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Yobykes, Penguin Books, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, Firefox, Tata Nano and Iads and Events.

Any two students from Classes 7 to 9 can form a team and a maximum of four teams from each school can participate in the competition.

Six teams for the regional finals on stage would be selected on the basis of a written preliminary round at each centre, both of which would be held the same day.

The winning team from each region will qualify for the grand finale to be held in Chennai on November 25.

The winners from each region and the national-level winners get attractive prizes.

Besides certificates, the regional winner gets Rs.15,000 in cash, the second prize winner Rs.12,000, and the third prize winner Rs.10,000. The 4th, 5th and 6th prize winners will get Rs.2,000 each.

At the national level, the winner gets Rs.50,000 in cash, the second prize winner Rs.40,000 and third prize winner Rs.30,000. The 4th, 5th and 6th prize winners get Rs.10,000 each.

In addition to the cash prizes, there are plenty of other prizes in kind for the participants as well as the audience.
