Young World painting contest today

The 21st edition of The Hindu-Young World painting competition finals are to be conducted in Kochi on Saturday.

Students whose paintings have been selected from the preliminary round for participation in the finals have already been intimated about it. The finals, at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra, T.D. Road, Ernakulam, will start at 9 a.m. and the shortlisted students have to reach the venue at their own cost. Students can report at the venue from 8 a.m.

The students have to carry the intimation letter sent to them. Topics for the finals and the painting sheet will be given at the venue. Any medium can be used and all the requirements for the competition are to be brought by the students. The preliminary round of competitions was held in two categories: Juniors - Class 4 to 6 and seniors - Class 8 to 10. The topics for the junior category preliminary round were “walking your pet, a flower show, shopping with your parents, and for seniors, “watching a painting competition, a green drive, planting trees, segregating waste, cleaning the beach and Sunday mornings at home.” The response was overwhelming in both the categories.

On conclusion, prizes will be presented to the winners at the venue. Other finalists will be given participation certificates. Ernakulam District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam will be the chief guest and also give away the prizes.

MIOT International, a multi-specialty hospital, is the presenting sponsor of the event.

The regional sponsors are Kottaram Agro Soulfull and Merriboy Icecreams.

The judges’ decision will be final. The paintings will become the sole property of The Hindu and will not be returned.
