More than 400 budding painters will put brush to canvas at the 21st edition of The Hindu Young World Painting contest, which will be held at the Nirmala Bhavan Higher Secondary School, Kowdiar, on Sunday.
Contestants should report at the venue at 8 a.m., with the call letter and their school identity card. The competition will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for the junior and senior categories, and the prize distribution will be done at the same venue at 1 p.m. The chief guests on the occasion will be film-maker T. K. Rajeevkumar and Latha Kurien Rajeev.
Students should bring with them the painting media of their choice. The drawing sheets will be provided by the organisers. The topics for the competition will be announced at the venue.
The title sponsor of the painting competition is MIOT International. The associate sponsors are Relief Cough & Cold and Dabur Red Paste.
This year, the Young World painting contest is being held in 15 cities across South India. An integral part of the Newspaper in Education (NIE) programme of The Hindu , the competition has, over the years, attracted the best of talents and has fostered a spirit of healthy competition between hundreds of schools.
The competition is open to students from classes four to seven in the junior category and classes eight to 10 in the in the senior category.
The top three prize winners in the senior category take home a cash award of Rs.5,000, Rs.3,000 and Rs.2,000 respectively, and their counterparts in the junior category will walk away with cash awards of Rs.3,000, Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,000 respectively. In addition to this, there will be 14 consolation prizes, seven in each category.
