Malayalam poet Akkitham Achuthan Namboodiri has said that reading will not die as long as people believe in ‘Saraswathy’ (knowledge).

He was speaking at a reception organised at his house ‘Devayanam’ at Akkitham near Kumaranallur for the ‘Guruvandana Yatra’ organised as part of the International Book Fair here on Saturday.

The ‘yatra,’ which covers heritage centres and houses of prominent literary figures, had arrived at the poet’s house.

The poet said that activities such as the fair and the ‘yatra’ were of great importance at a time when the young generation was staying off reading.

The meeting was addressed by V.T. Balram, MLA; book fair committee convenor M. Radhakrishnan; and secretary E.N. Nandakumar.
