Thiruvananthapuram: The State Bank of India Officer's Association, Kerala Circle, in association with TERUMO PENPOL Ltd. will organise various programmes to observe World AIDS Day on December 1. The observance of World AIDS Day will seek to highlight the message that voluntary non-remunerated blood donors are the foundation of safe blood supply because they are associated with significantly lower levels of infections that can be transmitted by transfusion, including HIV and hepatitis viruses.

The organisers propose to hold a series of programmes in Thiruvananthapuram to publicise the objectives. A discussion on the role of students in promoting voluntary blood donation and preventing AIDS and a seminar on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and counselling have also been planned. The formal inauguration of the various programmes will take place at Vylopilly Samskrithi Bhavan, Nanthencode, at 10 a.m. on December 1. Air Marshal P.S. Ahluwalia - AVSM/VMVSM Air Officer Commanding in Chief will be the chief guest.
