Experts to talk on ethics panels

KOZHIKODE: A wide range of ethical issues related to medical science will be the focus of a workshop on bio-ethics to be held in Kozhikode on Sunday. The workshop is being organised under the auspices of the Academy of Medical Specialities of Indian Medical Association (IMA).

The workshop will feature talks on the subject by experts, including Nandini K. Kumar, deputy director-general of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Hemalatha Somsekhar, senior research officer, ICMR. There will be talks by experts on the management and responsibilities of ethics committees, ethical issues in epidemiological research, research on stored tissue and ethics of new technologies with special reference to genetics, genomic, assisted reproductive technology and organ transplantation, R. Krishnan of IMA's Academy of Medical Specialities said on Saturday. A.K. Basheer, judge, Kerala High Court, will inaugurate the event.
