Port workers under the aegis of Kochi Thuramugha Samrakshana Samithi has threatened to go an indefinite strike from Saturday raising several demands including the continuation of the operations of Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal once box operations are shifted to Vallarpadam Island. The workers have also demanded that the port should acquire sufficient equipment for cargo handling.

The Samithi claimed that the authorities had not shown any inclination to heed their demands and that a protest march would be organised on Friday at the port premises ahead of the indefinite strike.
