85th anniversary of Payyannur conference of the Congress
Defence Minister A.K. Antony has called upon Congress activists in the State to be sensitive to social changes and work against reactionary forces.
Inaugurating the 85th anniversary of the historic Payyannur conference of the Congress at a public function at Payyannur here on Friday, Mr. Antony said the Communist parties were losing their attraction as movements for social revolution because their ideals had long ceased to suit the requirements of the contemporary era and to attract the masses, especially the youth.
Congress workers should be with the marginalised sections of the population, senior citizens, women, and people working in the traditional sectors, he said.
He said the slogans of social changes raised at the Payyannur conference in 1928 were still relevant as the country had rapidly progressed under the leadership of the Congress since Independence. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president M.M. Hassan presided over the function held here in the evening. Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran, Minister of State for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal, Rural Development Minister K.C. Joseph, MPs K. Sudhakaran and M.K. Raghavan, MLAs A.P. Abdullakutty and Sunny Joseph were among those present.
