Women's day celebrated

Various programmes including a women's rally were held here on Thursday to mark International Women's Day.

A rights declaration rally of women was held here under the aegis of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) as part of its State-level programme in connection with Women' Day.

The demands raised at the rally included passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament and legislatures, amendments to certain clauses in the Food Security Bill, and strong measures for prevention of atrocities on women.

The rally attended by hundreds of women also included cultural pageantry and displays of traditional lifestyle.

AIDWA State secretary K.K. Shylaja inaugurated the rally. District leaders K. Leela, M.V. Sarala, V.Madhavai, M.P. Sarojini, M. Jayalakshmi, and K. Sukanya were among those present at the rally.

The Kudumbasree Mission here also held a gathering to observe Women's Day. At a function held at the District Panchayat Conference Hall here in the morning, participants took a friendship pledge. District panchayat president K.A. Sarala presided over the function.

Among those who addressed the gathering included Roshni Khalid, Sona Mrityunjayan, and E.K. Somanathan.
