KOLLAM: The All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) has called upon the Left parties to withdraw support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government for allegedly trying to go ahead with the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal without taking Parliament into confidence.
At a press conference here on Thursday, national secretary of the AIFB B. Devarajan alleged that the Congress was misguiding the nation on the nuclear deal.
He said the Congress claim that the deal was imperative for the nation’s energy needs appeared farfetched.
Another claim of the Congress that the Hyde Act of the U.S. would in no way affect the deal was also not true. He pointed out that the deal comprised conditions which could adversely affect the future foreign policies of India and this was being deliberately masked by the Congress.
He said that in spite of remaining in power for 30 consecutive years in West Bengal and in spite of alternatively coming to power in Kerala, the Left parties were still to grow as a model in national politics. Even in the globalisation era, the Left parties were unable to grow as an alternative force in national politics, he said.
On October 6, the AIFB will hold a demonstration in front of the Secretariat to highlight the plight of the roads in the State. The demonstration will be inaugurated by national chairman of the party Kaipuzha Velappan Nair.
