KANNUR: Wipro BPO, a division of IT major Wipro Technologies, in association with Kannur University, will conduct a job fair on the university campus at Mangattuparamba here from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on September 14 and 15.

Vice-Chancellor P.K. Michael Tharakan and Wipro BPO associate vice-president Praveen Kamath said at a press conference here on Thursday that undergraduate and postgraduate students of the university and its affiliated colleges aged 18 or above and possessing good English communication skills could participate.

Prof. Tharakan said the fair was part of an initiative to provide the right platform to students, especially in the initial phase of their careers. He said the university’s association with Wipro BPO was symbolic of its commitment to career-oriented education. The responsibility of a university in a knowledge economy did not end with education; they should provide good opportunities that led to a career that could make the individual a productive resource.

Mr. Kamath said the fair was part of Wipro BPO’s efforts to join hands with various universities and offer career opportunities to students. He said the company would recruit candidates the same day they got the offer and it would offer a two-week training programme to those not selected. He said Wipro BPO would associate with the university to conduct a three-month training programme to train candidates who were trainable. “We make the opportunity to enhance the employability of the candidates,” he said. There will be an orientation session at 10 a.m. on September 14. The participants should bring a copy of their resume, one passport-size photograph and photocopies of identity proof, address proof and their academic and professional certificates.
