Procession held to spread message of safety
Kozhikode: In a novel attempt, students of BEM Girls Higher Secondary School here conducted an opinion poll to find out bus drivers, conductors and autorickshaw drivers who followed road safety rules during the course of their work. The students presented ‘ponnada,’ sweets and cakes to the winners.
The opinion of over 2,500 students of the school and the public was sought. Four drivers and three bus conductors were specially honoured. The flowers were collected from over 1,000 students.
An exhibition of photographs of road accidents was also conducted at the school. A caution card to vehicle drivers and an awareness notice to pedestrians were also distributed by the students.
Before the reception, the students hauled flex boards and took out a procession to spread the message of road safety. V.M. Vimala, Circle Inspector of Police, was the chief guest. Parent-teacher association president K.P. Rajan presided. Road Safety Forum convener Suresh Daniel welcomed the audience.
The following persons were selected best drivers: Sundaran (Sooryodayam bus, Godheeshwaram-Marad-Puthiyappa route), Manoj Kumar (Kannan Dhaanam bus, Beypore to Kozhikode route), Satheesh (Sinooja bus, Kozhikode to Payyanakkal) and Arun (Akhil bus, Beypore to Kozhikode).
