Free nutritious food project for the benefit of tribal children

A district development committee meeting chaired by District Collector K.G. Raju here on Saturday decided to organise a feasibility study on expansion of the free nutritious food support project to tribal children in more grama panchayats in the district.

Presently, the project is being implemented in four grama panchayats — Pulpally, Thirunelly, Noolpuzha, and Moopainad — to tackle health issues among tribal children.

The meet concluded that the issue could be addressed by expanding the project with the assistance of local bodies, Integrated Tribal Development Programme, and National Rural Health Mission.

The e-district project in the district was functioning efficiently, Siby Varghese, the district coordinator of the Akshaya project said. Three new Akshaya centres would be opened soon at Adikkolli, Rippon, and Kottathara, he added.

Mr. Raju directed the officials to ensure the presence of people’s representatives while assessing crop-loss in rain-related calamities so that the data collected was accurate. The Forest Department was planning to erect more solar power fences around human settlements near forest areas to tackle man-animal conflict, forest officials said. Mr. Raju directed the officials to take stringent action against those misusing cables erected for power fences.
