Minister opens Payyanadam rural water supply scheme

The government will take up the Rs.103-crore Mannarkad-Thenkara drinking water supply scheme with financial assistance from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Minister for Water Resources P.J. Joseph has said.

Inaugurating the Payyanadam rural drinking water supply scheme at Kumaramputhur here on Saturday, the Minister said the government would submit a proposal to Nabard soon.

An eight-km pipeline will be added to the Payyanadam scheme.

The government would enact a legislation to make water harvesting mandatory for all new buildings. The water harvesting plan should be submitted along with the application for building sanction, he said.
