KATTAPPANA: Though rain has resumed in the district with the Munnar area recording heavy rain, the water level in the Idukki reservoir remains steady.

Sources in the Dam Monitoring Cell at Cheruthoni said on Tuesday that the catchment area of the Idukki dam recorded only a minor increase in rainfall and the water level in the dam was steady.

Rainfall

The catchment area recorded 3 mm of rain on Monday, they said and added that the water level on Tuesday was 2,353.92 feet. It had been 2,395.98 ft on the same day last year.

The dam was currently at 49 per cent of its total storage capacity.

Power generation at the Moolamattom power house was 3.43 mu on Tuesday, which was lower than the average production at the plant which had a maximum production capacity of 18 mu, the sources said.

The Idukki dam, built across the Periyar river at 167.68 metres, it is one of the highest arch dams in Asia. This dam was constructed along with two other dams at Cheruthony and Kulamavu.
