: Rail passengers' associations and social activists have called for stern action to deter people from crossing railway tracks. Two accidents were reported in the recent past where a youth and a woman were run over at Kizhoor and Uppala.

The railway squad conducts checks and books those flouting the rules, only to set them free after levying a fine, said a rail commuter..

At the Kasaragod station, commuters regularly cross the tracks to reach platform 1 to take a bus on their onward journey. The situation is no different at Kanhangad, Uppala, Kumbla and Manjeshwaram. — Staff Reporter
