The city police on Friday arrested Shyam alias ‘Aryanadu’ Shyam, an accused in several white collar crimes and violent acts in the district.

Sub Inspector, Museum, V. Jayachandran, said the police arrested him from Russalpuram in Tamil Nadu on the basis of specific information.

In December 2010, the police had named him accused in the case relating to the seizure of counterfeit notes from two parked cars at Thekkumoodu. Efforts to arrest him had come to naught and he surrendered in court almost a year later. The police said Shyam was accused in at least four murders and several cases of kidnapping and extortion. Investigators said Shyam gained notoriety after he was named as prime accused in the gangland murder of Santhosh Kumar at Chakka in 2003. In 2004, the police charged him with the rape of a minor girl. In 2005, they investigated him on the charge of abetting the murder of ‘Pettah’ Kuttan, another gang leader, near Eenchakkal. The accused was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
