Kozhikode: The Kozhikode Corporation, in association with the Kerala Heart Care Society, will organise a ‘Walk for your heart’ programme as part of World Heart Day observance on September 30.
The walk will be held from the from the Corporation office to the Tagore Centenary Hall here at 7.30 a.m. Addressing a news conference here on Friday, Mayor M. Bhaskaran, Kerala Heart Care Society general convener K. Kunhali and Private Hospital Owners’ Association president K. Moidu said doctors and nurses of the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode; Beach Hospital, Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, Baby Memorial Hospital, National Hospital, Fatima Hospital and National Hospital, elected representatives, National Cadet Corps, Scouts, the Police, Army and media would take part in the programme.
After the walk, there would be a short musical interlude at the Tagore Centenary Hall. Dr. Kunhali would be the moderator.
District Collector A. Jayathilak, senior cardio thoracic surgeon Nasser Yusuf, former Head of the Department of Cardiology at the Government Medical College Hospital Kozhikode K. Venugopal would attend.
This year’s theme will be ‘team up for healthy hearts.’ The slogan is ‘healthy families, healthy communities,’
Mr. Bhaskaran said. Dr. Kunhali said the Malabar region had the largest number of heart patients in the State. Kozhikode and Malappuram districts top the chart in the districts of north Kerala.
One of the reasons for this was the change in lifestyle, fast food culture, taking food cooked in multi-heated oil and smoking, he said.
Mr. Bhaskaran said the Corporation would intensify its check on eateries in the city.
