Special project for Nadapuram

Rs.15-crore project to benefit 4,200 women

Project envisaged to be completed in 3 years

Kozhikode: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate the Nadapuram Area Development and Management (Nadam) special project under the Swarna Grameen Swarojkar Yojana (SGSY) scheme of the Union government, at Nadapuram on May 17.

Announcing the inauguration, district panchayat president K.P. Kunhammed Kutty told reporters here on Friday that ‘Nadam' was a major achievement for the district after its successful implementation of the ‘Subiksha' project under the SGSY scheme.

According to him, Nadam is aimed at ensuring reasonable income and livelihood to as many as 4,200 women in 420 Kudumbasree self-help groups in 14 grama panchayats of Kunnummal and Thuneri blocks in the district. “Nadam is a Rs.15-crore project, which aims to bring about a major change in the livelihood of the people in the area,” said Mr. Kunhammed Kutty.

District Collector P.B. Salim said the project would not have been possible but for the timely and effective intervention of leaders and public representatives from the State and the Centre alike. “Gratitude is due to all of them,” said Mr. Salim.

30 programmes

The project, envisaged to be implemented in three years, comprises around 30 programmes in different areas, including technical trainings, marketing and infrastructural developments, coconut-based production units, diary farming, ornamental fish farming, food processing and costume and fashion designing.

Forest Minister Benoy Viswom will preside over the inaugural function.
