Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan will inaugurate a rally by the district unit of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and a judicial inquiry into the ‘solar scam’ at Fort Maidan here on July 20.

The district committee meeting of the LDF on Friday also decided to organise an indefinite satyagraha in front of the Palakkad Collectorate from July 24 in protest against the alleged protection given by the government to those involved in the ‘solar scam’.

The meeting alleged that the Chief Minister was protecting some of his staff members and one of his close associates in Delhi involved in the scam.

On Kanjikode factory

The LDF meeting expressed its strong protest at the Railways not taking up the construction of the railway coach factory at Kanjikode for which foundation stone was laid last year.

It expressed anguish at the move to further bifurcate the Palakkad railway division to create Mangalore railway division.

The Palakkad railway division was bifurcated to create the Salem division a few years ago.

The meeting said Railways were neglecting Palakkad as was evident from the undue delay in completing the gauge diversion from Palakkad to Pollachi, thus affecting railway traffic between Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
