Better medical facilities for the poor

KALPETTA: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that the government will take stringent action against institutions, mostly massage parlours, which offer bogus ayurvedic treatment. The government would also take steps to ensure the quality of ayurvedic medicines produced in the State.

The Chief Minister was inaugurating a free ayurvedic mobile medical unit of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala at the Government High School Auditorium, Irulam, here on Sunday.

Better medical facilities

The unit is aimed at providing better medical facilities to the poor in the remote areas of the district. He praised Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala for its social commitment, citing the free clinics opened by the institution at Arattupuzha, soon after tsunami struck.

“The Vaidya Sala has played a predominant role in spreading the efficacy of ayurveda to the entire world,” Mr. Achuthanandan said. He also mentioned the tribal people’s efforts in finding, collecting and preserving the herbs. “But, ayurveda is beyond the reach of even these people,” he said. Kottakkal’s attempt to provide free medicine to this section of people would benefit them immensely, he added.
