Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s promises to strengthen the co-operative sector should not be like how he handled the Kochi metro issue, said Opposition Leader V.S. Achuthanandan. He was responding to Mr. Chandy’s statement at the valedictory of the 7th Cooperative Congress here on Friday that the State would amend the Cooperative Society’s Act. Mr. Achuthanandan said that 97th Constitutional Amendment will badly hit the co-operative sector. “The Act will create absolute chaos in the cooperative sector. The Amendment is continuation of the Vaidyanathan Committee report. Hundreds of co-operative societies will be closed once the amendment is implemented,” he said.
