Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Congress (B) chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai on Friday demanded a judicial inquiry into the Vizhinjam deal. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Pillai said he was demanding such a probe because the State government’s action in disqualifying Zoom Developers once again, instead of following the Supreme Court directions, was suspicious.

He also wanted a comprehensive inquiry into the transfer of KSEB land to the promoters of SmartCity at easy rates. “V.S. Achuthanandan, while he was Opposition leader, had claimed that the land value in the project area was Rs.5 lakh per cent. As Chief Minister, he is prepared to give 100 acres away for just Rs.7 crore,” he said.

He said Mr. Achuthanandan was “distorting facts related to Edamalayar case.” The High Court had acquitted him, besides pointing out political vendetta in the case, he said.

In the SNC Lavalin case, Mr. Pillai felt that it was impossible for one person, Pinarayi Vijayan, to decide on the deal. The role of Mr. Achuthanandan, LDF Convener at that time, should also be probed, he said.
