Former bureaucrat and litterateur D. Babu Paul has said that the country was increasingly coming under the clutches of communal intolerance. He added that any attempt to create divides along religious lines went against the soul of the country. He was speaking while inaugurating a lecture series on Swami Vivekananda organised by Vivekananda Chair at Mahatma Gandhi University on Friday. Dr. Paul said there were attempts being made to project Swami Vivekananda as the spiritual leader of a certain section. “However, such actions would insult his honour and were unacceptable to the values of secularism. A deep understanding of his teachings would help realise that Swami Vivekananda had adopted the path of spirituality in a manner that transcended religions.
