A Russell's viper that was caught from the Chittur taluk office premises was released to an uninhabited site, by the side of a stream, in Chittur on Thursday.
The poisonous snake was caught by local people and kept in a sack. The snake's stomach was full and it was not able to move. Later, with the concurrence of Forest Department, the snake was released.
In the past two months about a dozen snakes were rescued and released to safety by the activists of Wildlife Protection Society.
