Road repair work estimated to cost Rs.2.5 lakhs
PATHANAMTHITTA: The delay in completing road repair work beneath the railway over-bridge on TK Road in Thiruvalla has been inconveniencing commuters since the past 10 days.
The Public Works Department (PWD) began the repair work a week ago, when a portion of TK Road got waterlogged. The potholes on the road proved a hazard for motorists. The PWD scheme was to pave interlocking concrete tiles on the road and lay new cast iron pipes to carry the overhead power transmission lines along the stretch of the road.
Vehicular traffic along SCS junction and Manjady stretch of TK Road was diverted via Manjady-Thuklasserry road.
The periodic closure of the railway gate on the narrow Manjady-Thukalasserry road led to traffic bottlenecks.
Meanwhile, the repair work was affected on a portion of the road on Sunday following the tilting of the concrete tiles. The PWD had to repair the damaged portion of the road.
The PWD authorities said the work would be completed by Monday night and vehicular traffic resumed on Tuesday morning.
The road repair work was estimated to cost Rs.2.5 lakhs, the PWD authorities added.
