PATHANAMTHITTA: The annual Padayani festival at the Bhagavathykunnu Devi temple at Elanthoor, near here, concluded with the grand Valiya Padayani on Tuesday night.
A ceremonial procession displaying ‘kolams' made of exquisitely carved raw areca palm spathes was the highlight of the night.
Ganesha, Siva, Bhairavi, Pakshi, Yakshi, Maadan, Anthara Yakshi, Maya Yakshi, Arakki Yakshi, Marutha, Kanjiramaala and Kuthira came alive in ‘Kolams.' The rhythmic Padayani verses sung to the accompaniment of Thappu, a Padayani percussion instrument, and torches made of dry coconut palm leaves livened up the night.
Hundreds of devotees took part in the procession, most of them spellbound by the performance of the majestic Bhairavi ‘Kolam,'
