KOLLAM: The annual Urul Nercha festival and the 28th Onam celebrations of the Ashtamudi Veerabhadra Swami Temple will be held from October 7 to 9. The ritual will commence at 6 p.m. on the first day. Devotees perform the ritual after taking a bath in Ashtamudi Lake. The temple stands on the banks of the lake. The devotees believe that the origin of the temple is linked to the ‘Dakshayaga’ of the Puranas.

A free homoeo medical camp on the temple grounds will be inaugurated by Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran. There will also be distribution of preventive medicines for chickenpox.

The Devaswom committee of the temple will also distribute cash prizes to students from nearby schools who registered outstanding performances in the last SSLC examinations.

The function in this connection will be inaugurated by Minister for Labour P.K. Gurudasan. –Staff Reporter
