KALPETTA: The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is trying to make the country a major market for goods, including weapons, made in the U.S., V.V. Dakshinamoorthy of the Communist Party of India -Marxist (CPI-M) has said.

He was inaugurating Wayanad constituency convention of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) at HIM UP School Auditorium here on Saturday.

“We should not allow the Congress to come to power again,” he said. Mr. Dakshinamoorthy said the Congress and the UPA were moving away from the people and the present political scenario was favourable for a Third Front. The Third Front would be a reality after this Lok Sabha election, he added.

We are confident about our success in the Wayanad constituency. That is why we offered the seat to the Janata Dal. But unfortunately, they were not ready to accept the offer, Mr. Dakshinamoorthy said.

We had requested them to continue in the LDF and we hope that they would, he said. He said LDF candidates would win in all the Lok Sabha seats in the State.

No representatives of the Janata Dal attended the convention. George Thomas, MLA, presided over the function.

CPI State assistant secretary K.E. Ismail inaugurated the election committee office. A 151-member election executive committee was named at the convention.

P.A. Muhammed of the CPI(M) was elected chairman of the election executive committee and Satyan Mokery of the CPI as member.
