For postgraduate courses at Tenhipalam

Student strength to be increased by half

20-24 students likely for each science course

MALAPPURAM: The University of Calicut will increase the intake of students for the postgraduate programmes offered by different departments on the university campus at Tenhipalam.

A meeting of the Syndicate held on the campus on Saturday decided to increase the number of students admitted to postgraduate programmes by about 50 per cent.

More students can thus be given seats for postgraduate programmes on the campus from this academic year. When science departments can admit 20 to 24 students, commerce and humanities departments can give admission up to 30 students.

Research centres

The university has also decided to open three research centres in different colleges affiliated to it.

While the research centre for environmental sciences will be opened at Christ College, Irinjalakuda, the department of history at Farook College, Feroke, will be upgraded as a research centre for history.

A research centre for Arabic studies will begin at Madeenathul Uloom Arabic College, Pulikkal.

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the university has been asked to prepare a report on inter-disciplinary courses that the university can launch.
