KOZHIKODE: The Students’ Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Kerala Zone has criticised the ‘apathy’ of the Education Department in not initiating timely measures to address the uncertainty in the education sector.

SIO’s State secretariat, at a meeting held here on Wednesday, flayed the non-availability of textbooks. Modification of educational curriculum too had run into rough weather, it noted.

SIO also criticised the delay in announcing additional Plus One batches in schools in Malabar to address the educational backwardness of the region though a decision to this effect was taken by the State Cabinet months ago.

The condition was bad in the higher education sector as well, the secretariat noted. Allotment procedures have just started and uncertainty continued regarding the fee structure, it added.

Strong protest programmes will be launched to highlight the failures of the Education Department, the secretariat said. SIO president C. Dawood presided over the meeting.
