KOLLAM: The 28th State conference of the Udupi Madhwa Brahmana Sabha will be held here on January 28 and 29.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, S. Naryanan, general secretary of the sabha, said Labour Minister Babu Divakaran would formally inaugurate the conference on January 29.
The function will be preceded by a `vivaha sammelanam' and a symposium on `Modern man's belief in God.'
Mr. Narayanan said there were three lakh people belonging to the community in the State. Most of them worked as priests in various temples. Given the backwardness of the community in the education and financial sectors, the sabha had instituted various schemes for the uplift of the community members.
He said the main demands of the sabha included recognition of the Tulu Brahmin community as a linguistic minority community and grant of due benefits to it and representation for the community on the Travancore and Kochi Devaswom Boards.
