Thiruvananthapuram: State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Pinarayi Vijayan has lashed out at the United Democratic Front (UDF) for not only not joining the agitation being organised by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) on October 17 in protest against the neglect of Kerala by the Centre but also planning to organise a rival stir to ridicule it.

In a statement here on Tuesday, he described the UDF’s policy as topsy-turvy and said that the Congress leaders had not behaved in the same manner in the past when leaders like A.K. Gopalan, E.M.S. Namboodiripad and E.K. Nayanar organised stirs in Delhi and in the State for statutory rationing, shipyard and Central assistance in various areas. A.K. Antony, who had been the Leader of the Opposition then, had participated in the dharna organised in Delhi to press Kerala’s demands during the Nayanar government’s period. Even Congress president Sonia Gandhi had come to the venue of the dharna to offer.
