Amnesty: Cabinet allocates fund

The Cabinet on Wednesday sanctioned Rs.25 lakh for providing assistance to Keralites staying in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) undocumented, to make use of the amnesty scheme announced by the UAE government.

Minister for Non-Resident Keralites’ Affairs K.C. Joseph said here that the money would be made available to the Indian embassy in the UAE to help Keralites returning to the State. The Minister said in a release that the Cabinet had sanctioned Rs.2 crore for the conduct of programmes in connection with Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas 2013, scheduled from January 7 to 9, in Kochi.It said Rs.5 lakh was sanctioned for building a memorial for writer and orator Sukumar Azhikode at Payyambalam. — Special Correspondent
