The city police on Wednesday arrested two persons while they were attempting to break into a medical shop, near Chenthitta, in the Thampanoor police station limits. The arrested were involved in cases of robbery, theft at the Mahadeva temple at Attingal, and assault on tourists at Varkala and Chirayinkeezhu, the police said.

Sivaprasad, 28, of Vilayil Prasad Bhavan, Kilimanoor, and Prasannan, 38, of Roadarikathu Veedu, Pandalakkod, Vembayam, were arrested by a team led by Assistant Commissioner, Fort, M. Radhakrishnan Nair; Circle Inspector, Thampanoor, Sheen Tharayil; and Sub-Inspector Sivakumar on Wednesday night when they were attempting to break into the medical shop located beside National Highway-47.

A bunch of keys, chisel, and a crowbar, allegedly used by the duo, had been recovered from them, the police said.

Cash totalling Rs.2,000 and four mobile handsets were also recovered. The police said the duo had confessed to have stolen the handsets.

Sivaprasad is an accused in cases related to the assault on one Ratheesh of Parottukonam, near Nalanchira; and Sivaprasad near Gurumandiran at Neyattinkara. He had been listed as accused in cases registered in the Poovar and Medical College police stations. Prasannan is an accused in the assault on tourists at Varkala and Chiryinkeezhu, the police said.

The duo were produced in the court and remanded.


The Thampanoor police arrested one Vishnuram in connection with the alleged assault on Arunkumar and Ajib. According to the police, previous enmity led to the incident.

Found dead

A 71-year-old man was found dead in a lodge near Overbridge Junction under the Vanchiyoor police station limits, on Thursday.

The deceased had been identified as Sathyavrathan, Charuvakkal Veedu, Kulathummal, Pathanamthitta.

The deceased, an ex-serviceman, was not keeping good health for some time, the police said.

Vehicles auctioned

The Vizhinjam police on Thursday auctioned motorcycles and autorickshaws that were seized in connection with crime cases.

A sum of Rs.1.83 lakh was obtained in the auction of 38 motorcycles and two autorickshaws, the police said.
